Dr. John Rudolph
Dr. John R. Rudolph is the General Counsel for Lilly Diabetes of Eli Lilly and Company, one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies. In this role, he is responsible for all legal matters arising within Lilly Diabetes’ global organization and is a member of the Lilly Diabetes Lead Team.
John was previously the General Counsel for Eli Lilly Canada having joined Lilly in 2008. Before that he was an Assistant General Counsel at Pfizer Inc. in Groton/New London Connecticut, USA, where he was responsible for a variety of legal matters and was a member of the senior management team for one of the company’s largest Research and Development sites in the world. John moved to Connecticut from Pfizer Canada where he was Vice President, Legal and General Counsel to the company. Prior to his work in the pharmaceutical industry John was a partner at Bereskin and Parr where he practiced patent law in the field of Biotechnology.
John has a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology and Zoology and a Master of Science degree in Physiology, both from the University of Toronto. Subsequently he received a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences from McMasterUniversity. John then obtained his law degree from the University of Ottawa graduating cum Laude. John is called to the Bar of Ontario, as well as the Bar of each of Massachusetts and Indiana. He is also a registered Canadian and U.S. patent agent.
John has authored or co-authored many scientific and legal publications, and has lectured on a range of legal and scientific topics, as well as appearing on CHCH television speaking about intellectual property matters. He is a member of a number of professional organizations, and in 2005 he was admitted to the Honour Society of the University of Ottawa law school primarily for his roles in business and as an advocate for strong intellectual property rights in Canada.
