ART IN THE WORKPLACE FEATURED ARTIST (19th Exhibit)
Most famous artists have a distinct style. You see a landscape and know its a Casson or Jackson, or you visit an exhibit and recgonize a Kadinsky or a Cezanne. And then you attend an art show and you wonder, "What's an Ewert?" It sounds funny, doesn't it? It looks funny too, because there is no distinct style; there are many styles. But this is who I am! A complicated, complex, flexible, diverse creative person! Over the years my art students have challenged me to keep challenging them with new things, so I have adapted and tried many different ways of painting, looking to previous artists for inspiration. You'll see our study of Tom Fedro (who was inspired by Picasso), our look at African art, Modern Abstract Paintings by Oznat Tzadok, works of Impressionism, still lifes, and the list goes on. If my students request a style or subject, we all give it a try, resulting in very fun sessions and a great variety of finished products. We continually challenge ourselves to improve our skills.I especially love our creative sessions of abstract painting when all of our inspiration comes from within!
So who am I? I'm an outdoorsman, who spends weeks camping, kayaking, swimming and cottaging! I am in awe of the landscapes God has created and am drawn to paint and canvas to recreate them in my own way, sometimes in detail and sometimes very abstract and loose. I take many photos and sketch preliminaries for future paintings.
I can't be in a kayak on dark water in Northern Ontario taking in the rocks, trees and beautiful sky everyday, but I can be painting these scenes in my studio with Jazz music in the background and like minded friends gathered with me, painting "in the zone" where time disappears and troubles melt away.
I am also a house painter; so architecture, decorating and colour are also my passions. Often when I finish painting a house, I see a space that just needs a great piece of art. Often it's an abstract that would best suit the space and become part of the home owners decor. Painting abstracts expresses the emotions I feel, in colour, texture and layering. They are personal, bringing my feelings to life. I can experiment and play, with no clear direction, but with definite results.
My medium is always acrylic, but my methods change often!
I hope you enjoy the variety I offer. Experience my happy place in each one!
