MIP is committed to using sustainability principles to make sure the impact produced by the research park is positive for the surrounding community and the environment at large. The park has established a minimum of LEED silver rating for all new buildings. This ensures that the advances in research are being produced in infrastructure that helps reduce the environment impact.
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through the creation and implementation of universally understood and accepted tools and performance criteria.
LEED is a third party certification program and an internationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. It provides building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance. From our world class laboratory leasing to our innovative office psace and collaborative environment, our commitment to the development and continuation of our LEED standards is an important part of our commitment to our tenants.

Following an independent review and an audit of selected credits, one of four possible levels can be achieved: certified, silver, gold, platinum.
CanmetMATERIALS LEED Platinum Building
The CanmetMATERIALS building located at MIP is a LEED Platinum building, winning a Canadian Green Build award in 2014. The jury described the building as “an exceptional project that combines high performance and rigorous planning with interesting, well lit and beautifully detailed interior spaces.” With many sustainability principles woven into the design and construction of the building, CanmetMATERIALS is a huge success in building green.
