MIP extends support to the Indigenous community

Only weeks after learning of the shocking discovery at the former Kamloops Residential School,

we now know that additional discoveries of unmarked graves of Indigenous children have been

identified. It is a sombre reminder, especially as we celebrate Indigenous month, that a more

concerted effort is required to channel the process of healing and reconciliation.

McMaster Innovation Park continues to offer our support and wish to express sincerest

condolences to the Indigenous Community as we stand in solidarity. Our flags at the Park will

once again be lowered and kept at half-mast beginning June 29 – July 6, representing a seven-

day period of mourning.

We recognize that this is not enough. As part of our commitment to make the challenge of truth

and reconciliation real in our community, we intend to engage in a discourse led by members of

the Indigenous group to help us understand the history of residential schools, its impact on the

community and the role MIP can play in continued education and healing.
