Hyatt Hotel construction to begin at McMaster Innovation Park

Exciting developments are underway at McMaster Innovation Park (MIP) as construction fencing has gone up in early April, signaling the commencement of the new hotel project that will enhance the Park’s offerings and supports its growing community.

Ground improvement works are underway at the site located on the west side of Longwood Road directly across from The Atrium. The development team behind the project – Sigma Group and Kothari Group – is now finalizing a building permit with the City of Hamilton to allow construction to start in full force this summer with an expected opening in fall 2026.

The upscale, 162-unit, seven-storey hotel will be dually branded as Hyatt House and Hyatt Place Hamilton McMaster Innovation Park. It will offer visitors to MIP an opportunity to stay conveniently on-site while they are working on extended stay placements or research collaborations with MIP tenants or McMaster University, attending conferences and events, or supporting the growth of companies in the ecosystem. The hotel will also serve the needs of local businesses and services in the West Hamilton Innovation District and surrounding area.

The Hyatt Place Hamilton McMaster Innovation Park will feature 78 spacious, comfortable and modern traditional hotel rooms. The Hyatt House Hamilton McMaster Innovation Park will bring 84 extended-stay rooms, offering suite-style accommodations with equipped kitchens.

Both hotels meet the diverse needs of short-term and extended-stay guests, featuring hotel amenities such as a 24‐hour fitness centre along with an indoor saltwater pool, business centre, guest laundry, on-site parking and WIFI. The property will also feature a casual dining lounge with a complete bar and restaurant accessible to both hotel guests and the broader community.

The development will also include a variety of meeting space options, ranging from 300 to 2,800 square feet for business meetings and social gatherings, which will complement MIP’s existing conference offerings and attract larger events to the area.

Both the Sigma Group and the Kothari Group have extensive experience developing and managing hotels, including the TownePlace Suites Hamilton, a 125-unit extended-stay hotel on Upper James Street.
